Fire Prevention

The Fire Prevention Bureau is responsible for The Fire Prevention Program. The Program is designed to reduce personnel injuries and loss of life and property that results from hazardous conditions. This is accomplished through The Fire Prevention activities outlined below:

Activities And Their Objectives

  • Coordinate Engine Company Inspection Program -Annually inspect businesses for fire hazards and building familiarity (Pre-Fire Planning) for suppression personnel.
  • Coordinate the Household Hazardous Waste Program with the County-Jointly manage the ABOP site.
  • Investigate cause and origin of fire.
  • Prevent future fires by cause awareness of past fires, Prosecute those responsible for arson fires.
  • Coordinate the Smoke Detector Giveaway Program-Smoke Detectors are available, at no cost to residents that are unable to purchase one for their home. For further information contact Fire Prevention at 760-323-8186.
  • Coordinate the annual "Change Your Clock-Change Your Battery Program" with the Rotary Club.
  • Enforce State, County and Local codes.
  • Development Review-Plan checks all new construction for compliance with Uniform Fire Code and
    State laws.
  • Perform Field Inspections of new construction-Ensure buildings are constructed according to plans and that all fire systems work.
  • Participate in community fire defense planning.
  • Public Education-Organize Fire Prevention Week activities-National Fire Prevention Week is scheduled for the second week of October each year.
  • Coordinate community public education and safety training.
  • Coordinate all special event activities involving the Fire Department program and functions.
